Programs for all ages

Programs for All Ages 2016

These workshops are designed to involve the whole family in scientific exploration and connect them to nature. Participate as a citizen scientist and contribute to the scientific understanding of the world around us. Each workshop will involve data collection and observation as well as learning how the data are used to answer our research questions at the LLNF. All ages welcome, but children must be accompanied by at least one adult.

Nature’s Clock, Wednesday, July 20;  10am – noon

Study phenology with the flora and fauna of the Linda Loring nature Foundation. We’ll look at the timing of things like flowering, fruiting, nesting, and hatching. We’ll observe marked plants and record stages of development. Activities will help us keep track of when things happen at LLNF and contribute to our knowledge of this amazing property. Come once or join us each month to see how things have changed.

Geocaching BasicsWednesdays, 10am – noon, June 29th, August 3

Let’s go on a treasure hunt! Whether you’re new to this family-friendly sport or an experienced geo-locator, join us as we explore the art and science of geocaching. Using orienteering skills of map and compass as well as GPS and phone apps, we’ll search for the caches hidden in the wild at LLNF and give you the skills to treasure hunt for the rest of Nantucket’s secret caches. Pirates welcome.

All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by at least on adult.
